Remember, these folks are choosing to spend weeks or months isolated on a mountain. Often you find older people who have recently retired, probably like the first gentlemen that I met that are relatively talkative and friendly. Younger thruhikers are often maladjusted hippie wannabees, whose numbers on the trail increase as the weather gets warmer.<BR/><BR/>My guess is that this young lady knew she smelled really bad and figured I might wrinkle my nose or say something, as, I am sure, someone else had done prior.
